Midwife visit today

Today has been the only time I have been to see the midwife without Yorkie. It felt quite sad actually, listening to the heart beat without him there to share in it.

I also saw a different midwife today, one we've seen once some months back. She took one look at me and asked me to confirm that I was about 34 weeks along. Only I'm not, I'm 31 weeks. But I took this as her just guessing and making conversation before sitting down with me and my notes.

I handed over my pee sample - which she said was absolutely clear. "Nothing in that at all" were her words (first time that's ever happened with my kidney history *pride*) and I felt a rush of relief that we could therefore rule out gestational diabetes.

Apparently not though.

Pouring over my notes now, and seeing that nothing had come up as a problem with the blood I gave last week, she kept asking my due date and checking of the dating wheel, and on the growth chart in my notes.

I was asked to get on the bed thingie again and she measured my bump again, and had a good prod about to measure Wiggle, then listened to the heartbeat (which was good and strong).

Baby is big. Big like 34 weeks gone big, not 31 weeks and 2 days. So on account of this she wants a second opinion about the diabetes and is sending me to the consultant up at the hospital next week. I did point out that babies on my side of the family are big (I was 10lb 6 oz, my parents both 9lb +) so I was kind of expecting this, but she wants to be 'safe rather than sorry' and explained that if I DO have DB then is can cause problems with the labour - like (worse case) being forced into a c-section if baby is too big for a natural delivery without serious risk to mine and/or baby's life. Obviously I want to avoid that!

Still, I'm not worried. Poor Yorkie is though, so I've been reminding him that my pee and blood are both clear and that this is just to double check. I'm looking forward to have a nice big healthy baby (even if the labour is a nightmare!) and fully expect to be given the all clear next week.
